Skylark Class (Early Years - Reception)
Welcome to Skylark Class
“All children deserve the care and support they need to have the best start in life. Children learn and develop at a faster rate from birth to five years old than at any other time in their lives, so their experiences in early years have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high-quality early learning provide the foundation children need to fulfil their potential.” (Early years foundation stage statutory framework.
Our Early Years team are highly skilled and experienced in ensuring children who attend our Early Years provision are safe and thrive during their start to school.
Mrs Daly (Monday - Thursday) and Mrs Parker (Friday) are the class teachers.
The class are supported by Mrs Holmes and Mrs Russell(pm)
Our Curriculum
In Reception we follow the EYFS Statutory Framework. The children learn through well planned play opportunities, with a balance of teacher directed activities and child-initiated learning.
The curriculum section on our school website provides an overview of the learning that will take place over the year, so please look on the EYFS tab for further information. We will also keep you regularly informed on our Seesaw app about what we are learning in class so that you can continue to support your child at home.
Important Times
We have a P.E. slot on Tuesday each week. Please ensure your child’s kit is always kept in school and all clothes are labelled. They will be sent home at the end of each half term. Children with long hair will need it tied back for P.E. Earrings cannot be worn in P.E.
On Fridays we have a whole school celebration worship. If your child has received a certificate or trophy for an out of school achievement, they are welcome to bring it in to share on this day.
Each week the children will visit our school library. Please ensure reading books are always kept in bookbags so they get the opportunity to change them.
Snack Time
We have a snack area in the classroom where the children are encouraged to have one piece of school fruit every day. You are also welcome to send your child with a piece of fruit or vegetable (clearly labelled) for an extra snack in the afternoon if you wish. Please ensure your child brings in a named water bottle to school every day.
